Special Trading Day
On Wednesday, 15th February, Goodies 2U, our Op Shop, ventured into new territory. On that day, we set up an outlet on the forecourt of the church, with several tables of goodies nestled under a marquee and the fairy floss machine under a beach umbrella. The usual volunteers, Sarah and Ann, were augmented by a cast of thousands – okay, that’s an exaggeration, but many members of the congregation came along to spruik, sell, and socialise for a few hours. They knew that this was THE place to be in Adelaide. Our usual range of “an amazing selection of clothing at bargain prices” was augmented by a special delivery of fashion shoes from an Adelaide company – these were shoes in near new condition. (Sadly, I decided 6inch high heels were not for me, but found a nice pair of Vans, very fashionable sneakers.) Of course, the takings for the day were the best ever, but more importantly, the high profile location meant that many people became aware of the op shop. Quite a few ventured upstairs into Hamilton Hall to look through the rest of our stock. The date was chosen to mesh with university orientation for international students, and we plan to venture onto the forecourt from time to time in the future.
Thanks to everyone who came along to assist that day –too many to list – but A special thanks to Ann Ellermann, the op shop manager for her superb efforts. If you want to become part of trendy retail as an op shop volunteer, contact me. (Peter Trudinger)
