The Season of Creation
201709-creationIn September, we will be celebrating the Season of Creation. In the Christian tradition, the year is divided into periods which focus on different aspects of our faith, for example, Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. These are called “seasons.” About 20 years ago, a proposal was made to add a new season, The Season of Creation, in which we celebrate God as Creator.

By the way, this originated in Adelaide and was championed by Norm Habel. The idea caught on and now the Season of Creation is a worldwide phenomenon, crossing denominational boundaries. The Season begins on September 1 and concludes the Sunday after St Francis of Assisi Day (October 4). Each Sunday in a three year cycle has its own theme that centres worship around some element of the creation.
Rev Dr Peter Trudinger

The Cycle of the Seasons
Like the Common Lectionary, from which we draw our Sunday Bible Readings, the themes for the Season of Creation follow a three-year cycle.

In the first year of the cycle (Series A) the overall theme is The Spirit in Creation and the Sundays are Forest, Land, Outback and River.

The Theme for the second year (Series B) is The Word in Creation and the Earth, Humanity, Sky and Mountain Sundays. In the third year (Series C) the theme is Wisdom in Creation and the Sundays are Ocean, Fauna, Storm and Cosmos.
