Connecting with Gaza

The churches of South Australia, through the SA Council of Churches, keeps in touch with Palestinian Christians in Gaza. The previously strong Christian community there is dwindling. There are now only 350 Christian families left, most of whom have become very poor. Many lost their homes in the 2014 bombings. But they know that they have not been abandoned by the wider Christian world.

This Christmas the SA churches helped Caritas Jerusalem to provide Christmas gifts for families. We were able to send $3600 raised here through various projects and another $1000 from sale of the peace lamps. Last Easter we sent $1000 to help a centre for elderly people on the West Bank. To date South Australia has raised $16,000 through sale of the peace lamps or peace doves made by young Palestinians. These are still available through the South Australian Council of Churches
