After Easter in April and May is a good time to go through your wardrobe and look out what you can give at the end of May for PACKING DAY.
The Packing Days represent a mission activity of Uniting Church Fellowships in South Australia. They are designed to support Op Shops and other church activities in Central and Northern Australia, including island and coastal communities across the north.
New and good second-hand items of clothing suitable for tropical places are needed including:
For women: cotton frocks, blouses, tops, skirts, jeans, light cardigans, nightwear, headscarves, sunhats, necklaces.
For men: jeans, work shirts, trousers, T-shirts, windcheaters.
For children: clothing for all ages, shorts, T-shirts, tops, dresses, bathers, windcheaters,
thongs, sandals, shoes, underwear.
For babies and toddlers: nappies, singlets, jumpsuits, frocks, jackets, socks, nightwear.
In some communities men and women like black trousers or skirts and white shirts or blouses for Sunday wear.
Blankets and some warmer jackets and other clothes are needed for cold winter nights, but not knitted garments.
Household goods are sent to some places: sheets, pillowcases, curtains, blankets, towels, rugs, kitchen ware (not crockery).
For Old Timers Fete, Alice Springs: new items for the work stall, hand-crafted items, hand
knitting, gift packs etc.
