Retiring Offering for the Tailem Bend Church on the next three Communion Sundays
When the membership of the Tailem Bend Uniting Church dwindled and decided that they could no longer remain active, the land and the Church building was donated to The United Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress. Members of the Congress use of it as a place of worship and community centre, even though the building is now in a bad state of repair. At the recent Uniting Church Synod, their representatives asked for donations to help them with the renovations.
The Tailem Bend church has some historic links with Scots. Members may recall that Garth Oliver and his wife Fay lived and worshipped at Tailem Bend after their retirement. The Rev Norah Norris also has fond memories of serving an interim appointment at Tailem Bend.
The Scots Church Council decided that for the next three Communion Sundays, members of the congregation would be asked to contribute to a Special Retiring Offering to be sent to the Aboriginal and Islander Congress congregation at Tailem Bend. The three Sundays involved would be Advent Sunday on November 27th, and subsequently, the 1st of January and the 5th of February.
