Quiet Time in the Church

Inside the Church

Scots is open for private contemplation every Tuesday to Thursday from 10 - 2.

Visitors are welcome to the church building. Please maintain quiet for others who may be using the space. It would also be considerate not to use a camera flash if there are others at prayer.

Stay as long as you wish. If you would like to speak to one of the ministry team, please ask at the office next to the church.

Two Simple Methods for Prayer
Sit with a straight back, feet flat on the floor, so that you are in a position of 'relaxed alertness.' Make yourself conscious of your breathing, keeping it steady and slow. Feel the air in your nostrils. Become conscious of the silence of the place, feel the distance of the traffic outside. Focus on some point in front of you, perhaps one of the crosses.  At this point you can begin to follow one of two methods... there are many others of course.

One method is to keep the breathing gentle and regular and in your mind let the word "Maranatha" fit the rhthym of your breathing.  'Mar-an' on the in breath, and 'a- tha' on the breath out. Let the rhytmn and the word (Aramaic for Our Lord Comes) fill your being and take you away from everything around you.  Allow yourself to be still. God requires nothing of you.  Just be...

Another exercise is to oppose the rush and pain of life with a good and safe time. As you begin to relax, remember a time of happiness and safety. A time when perhaps you were not even particulary aware of being happy, but life was good, and you were safe.  Remember the feelings, touch them in your mind, play with them. Even though life was good at that time, pain and evil were still abroad.  Now, in the church, in any pain or anxiety you bring, the good is still present.

Unfortunately we have found it necessary to have closed circuit cameras in the church. There is no audio transmission by the cameras.
