Random Acts of Welcome

The Rev Liellie McLaughlin, who was the guest speaker at the State Mission Fellowship in April, has sent us some details about her topic on that day. As you read this you may think of someone who is new to Adelaide and perhaps feeling unsure about life in a new environment whom you might like to tell about this group.

RANDOM ACTS OF WELCOME! A community group to randomly create friendships, family and fun. We are a multicultural, faith friendly, child-happy group of random friendly people ... wanting to create friendship and a sense of belonging for people new in Adelaide.

Liellie writes: Being new in a place can be daunting, time-consuming and stressful. It can also be a lonely time as you do not know other people going through the same problems/situations as you do. It can be expensive as you may not know about health cover, ambulance cover, op-shops or markets. Come and share your questions and maybe someone will be able to give advice or help you. You never know until you ask! Welcome All!

Are you new to Adelaide?
Have you come from afar or from other cities in Australia?
Would you like to meet a wide variety of cultures and races from all over the world?
Are you a refugee, or a volunteer wanting to make the world a better place?
Are you a new migrant struggling to meet others outside your work?
Would you like to welcome or be welcomed?
Would you like to teach others about your culture?
Would you like to learn to live in Australia, or to learn where what is in Adelaide?

Social Meeting Nights are planned randomly for eating together, playing together and meeting new friends.

We like Cooking TOGETHER. This is a time to cook, learn and laugh. Bring some ingredients to cook something to share with others. Children welcome! Tuesdays 14th & 28th July, 1.00pm - 3.00pm at the SOUTH - WEST COMMUNITY CENTRE, 171 Sturt Street Adelaide.

Later this year, the big annual event is a Multicultural Beach Day and Barbecue at the West Beach Surf Lifesaving Club. But there will be many other activities before then. Contact Liellie on 0437794410 or enquire at the South West Community Centre, 171 Sturt Street Adelaide (8203 7801)

Come - it is a fun place to be a peace builder and be a volunteer and meet a friend, no matter how long you have lived in Adelaide. Bring ideas, food and stories - we would love to share all, and learn from you as we all learn about life in Adelaide!
