Last year Pilgrim Church and Scots Church, the two old established Uniting Church Congregations in the City of Adelaide, drew up a Memorandum of Understanding committing us to act together in ministry in the city.
As an expression of this relationship and as a happy way of celebrating the Rev Dr Dean Eland’s last day as Interim Minister at Scots during the Rev Dr Peter Trudinger’s absence, the Pilgrim 9.30am Congregation joined with Scots Congregation in a combined service at 10.00am on Sunday 28th September.
The service was planned and led by Rev Dr Dean Eland (who, since he retired, has been a member of Pilgrim Church), Rev Jana Norman and Rev Dave Williamson, with Geoff McManus, Margaret Nolan and Kath March from Scots and Ros Wilson, Didy Pederick, Jenny Ward and Norm Inglis from Pilgrim. We sang hymns written by Helen Wiltshire from Pilgrim and music was provided by Jan Cockington on the Scots organ and instrumentalists and soloists from the 9.30 Pilgrim community.
Both congregations observed the Season of Creation during September and so in our worship we celebrated “River Sunday” as well as Social Justice Sunday, it being the last Sunday of September. We are grateful to those who designed the service and integrated the themes to give us an inspiring time of worship.
We enjoyed a happy time of fellowship over morning tea following the service and had the opportunity both formally and individually to say goodbye to Dean and Judy.
The Memorandum of Understanding commits Scots and Pilgrim Churches to
led into a fuller participation in Christ’s mission in the world.
