Scots Church Fellowship

How pleasing it is that our few loyal members continue to turn up for the meetings! On Thursday 1st September there were seven present - they come by public transport, some by taxi, or in their own car. As usual we shared a chat while we ate our sandwich lunch, and are pleased that the staff from the office are able to join us for lunch.

Facilitator, Mary, read a Devotional "Faith" from a small booklet, one of many resources written by Margaret Knauerhase, who died recently. Alleyne shared with us the story of her sister-in-law who, with her husband, went to Lae in New Guinea in the late 1940's. His task was to build a Botanic Garden - and life there was to be very different for the new bride! As their house was not ready for them she stayed in Brisbane for some time. It was just after the War and building supplies were not always available, for example mosquito proof fly-wire was restricted, and so it took some time to build their house. She wrote weekly letters to her mother, interesting letters full of news of every day events, so well written in such detail that we could visualize everything. Her family have put the letters together in a book - a great way to keep note of family history! We found it most interesting and are grateful to Alleyne for offering to share this with us.

A reminder was given of forthcoming events – Fellowships Day on Friday 30th September at 10am at The Church of the Trinity, 318 Goodwood Road, Clarence Park – the speaker is Frontier Services Pastor Gary Ferguson, and lunch is available for $6.00.

Next year, instead of receiving our copies of "Together" magazine in bulk, members are asked to each pay their own subscription of $ 15 to UCAF, and a copy will be posted directly each month. Subscriptions can be paid on Fellowships Day.

Our next meeting is Thursday 6th October – BYO lunch at 12noon – everyone is most welcome. So come along – it has been suggested that we all a share a memorable event in our life. The Facilitator is Rev Norah Norris and Mary Thomas is on Kitchen Duties.

For your diary – UCAF Consultation Day is at 10am on Monday 21st November.

SA Army Band Concert at Burnside City UC Sunday 9th October at 2 pm, with proceeds to Frontier Services
