As usual, the Fellowship met on Thursday 3rd November – just a few of us but nevertheless a most rewarding and enjoyable time was had by all! Margaret Morey was Facilitator, and we were delighted that Rosalie Smith came along to tell us about her career as a Kindergarten Director.
Rosalie told us how the Kindergarten Union was first formed, Kindergartens then were helped with volunteers, and only partly funded so there was the need for fund-raising. Later with further developments people were trained in early childhood education. Rosalie was a mature student – she certainly found her vocation, and after teaching for about a year she became a Director. In this role her she was similar to a Head, and was able to develop the gifts she had. She was responsible for everything that happened, and often parents came to her for all sorts of advice, which she was able to give. It was evident to us that Rosalie really loved what she was doing. Kindergartens nowadays are known as “Pre-School”.
As the Fellowship is coming to the end of year activities we decided on our annual donations. As the group does not now have office-bearers, we are fortunate that the finances are managed in the office by Evelina Bruhn who had sent along a comprehensive Financial Report. To our surprise there was quite a healthy balance, and so we were able to donate a total of $975 to the wider work of the church - $200 each to Frontier Services, National & World Mission and the UCAF Special Appeal for Rural Ministries; also $75 each to Shalom College, Australian Refugee Association, the Paschke Family, UnitingCare Wesley Bowden and Schools Ministry Group. Earlier in the year we had donated $100 to Act for Peace for Syrian refugees, $100 to the Red Dove Cafe and $75 to Australian Church Women's Winifred Kiek Scholarship fund. This means that our little group raised and gave away $1250 this year!
It was decided to have a special end of year gathering for our next meeting day which is Thursday 1st December, and celebrate the Christmas Season with a shared lunch, to which we invite visitors, followed by a Christmas Programme. A special invitation giving all the details is available now, so members of the congregation, do keep the date free and plan join us. Donations can be given to the Christmas Bowl at this event.
