Helen Lyall arrived in Adelaide with her husband in 1857.
She was most active in women's and children's work, in supporting foreign missions and in city social work. As indicated by the verses from Proverbs on her plaque she gave herself tirelessly in evangelical outreach into the community, even to the detriment of her health. She was active in the Women's Christian Temperance Union and founding president of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union in South Australia. Among her other activities she lectured and wrote a pamphlet on The Duty and Privilege of Giving (Adelaide, 1895).[i]
Helen Lyall died in 1902. The tablet in her memory is on the eastern wall.
